A raft of changes to the Anderson Motorsport #17 have given Max Vidau a heightened level of comfort ahead of round two for the 2024 Dunlop Super2 Series in Perth, while Tufflift have come on board as a new primary sponsor.
The opening round of the season at Bathurst, just under three months ago, was Vidau’s debut in the Dunlop Series and his first race meeting in Supercar machinery. After qualifying 10th on debut, Vidau’s maiden race came unstuck as an innocent party to a blocked track. Fortunately, the ensuing red flag allowed Vidau to claim 10th with the results backdated one lap.
For the weekend’s second race Vidau wrestled his Ford Mustang to 12th on the grid, despite losing power steering early on during his fastest lap. The 21-year-old charged forward in the 40-minute race to claim seventh place.
Following a recent test day, Vidau and the Anderson Motorsport team have made a number of changes aimed at delivering a car tailor made to Vidau’s strengths.
While it will be a first ever visit to Carco.com.au Raceway for Vidau, it was a happy hunting ground for the team last year where they took pole position and a podium in race one.
“We played around with a lot of setup changes, to make the rear end react more to my liking and to get the front end feeling more responsive,” said Vidau.
“It was a solid day, we learned a lot and I felt super comfortable. Ergonomically it’s been a little more difficult than the Porsche, but we’ve made some changes that have made it a lot better.
“Perth is quite different from what you see on TV, all the corners are quite long and loaded, and sort of turn back on themselves. We know the tyre degradation is going to be pretty bad so it’s going to be all about keeping that rear tyre under the car for the last half of the race.
“Having the genuine car speed will be massive, so you don’t need to use the tyre trying to hold on and wrestle it around. The Anderson Motorsport Mustang was rapid last year, and the team have found even more car speed since then. There’s a lot of confidence for us heading in.”
For the trip to Western Australia, Vidau’s #17 will carry primary backing from Tufflift and an updated livery to reflect the new sponsorship.
“It’s fantastic to have Tufflift come on board for this weekend, they’re extremely passionate about their Motorsport and their colours look fantastic on our chariot,” concluded Vidau.
Round two of the 2024 Dunlop Super2 Series kicks off with a pair of Friday practice sessions on the 17th of May, before twin 40-minute races over the weekend.
