The tricky nature of Hidden Valley Raceway has led to a frustrating weekend for Alex Davison in round two of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship.
After improving with the car through Friday’s two practice sessions, Davison steered the Ashley Seward Motorsport prepared entry to 10th place in qualifying. Remarkably, his lap time was just 3 tenths shy of pole position in an extremely close session.
A tough start to race 1 saw the #222 entry fall a number of spots by the end of the opening lap. Superb driving from Davison allowed him to recover back to 13th place, as one of the only drivers able to make any headway in that race. Davison’s fastest lap was also just 0.03 seconds slower than the race winner’s, proving the strength of his pace.
In race two, Davison was run wide early on which dropped him down the order once more. Sitting 18th after the first lap, the ASM car once again rose back up the order to ultimately finish in 11th place after taking advantage of a mid-race restart. The weekend wrapped up with a less adventurous race, with very few people in the field able to make any overtakes, as Davison finished in 12th.
The results saw Davison finish 11th for the round, and also moved him to 11th in the standings after two rounds.
Round three of the championship heads to the streets of Townsville from July 7-9.
