Andrew Goldie has delivered a runner up finish for the weekend in Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, while Ashley Seward Motorsport teammate Ross McGregor equalled his best finish for the season before rain saw the cancellation of race three.
Goldie’s charge to the podium came despite the returning driver battling the symptoms of a cold, particularly struggling in Saturday’s 45 minute endurance cup race. McGregor bounced back from a race one retirement to finish seventh in race two.
Qualifying came late on Friday afternoon with Goldie putting himself third on the grid and McGregor going 10th fastest, both in Pro-Am.
Race one got off to a chaotic start with McGregor an innocent victim and picking up enough damage to put him out of the race after just two laps. Goldie skipped through the myriad of spinning cars to finish eighth overall and second in class, his best result of the year after three times finishing third in his previous six races.
Race two was the 45 minute endurance cup race, held on a hot Saturday afternoon. Goldie and McGregor both showed their experience as they held on to their pace throughout the long race to come home in second and seventh. The result for McGregor equals his best performance of the year which came in race three at Queensland Raceway.
The final race of the weekend saw the cars make it on to the track before officials deemed the conditions unsafe and cancelled the race following one lap behind the Safety Car.
“Saturday was very tough from a physical point of view, especially the long race, I didn’t run a cool suit as I didn’t think I needed it but in hindsight I definitely could have done with having it,” said Goldie.
“Still battling a bit with some cold symptoms definitely made it a bit worse. After missing Sandown, I think I could have done with some more seat time as that created a bit of a gap between drives for me.
“I was a little bit off the pace compared to where I could have been with a bit more practice, but in all I’m very happy, it was a great day of racing on Saturday at a very cool racetrack. I’m pretty excited to get to Bathurst in a couple weeks and go racing there,” concluded Goldie.
The fifth round of Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge will run at Mount Panorama from November 11-13 as part of the Bathurst International.
