Holdsworth Expecting Wild Trans Am Finale

Entering the final round of the 2022 Turtle Wax Trans Am Series as a title contender, Brett Holdsworth believes it will be a wild affair at Sandown Raceway.

Sitting third in the Championship, 85 points off the lead with 200 still to play for, Holdsworth is well on target to hit the goal he set at the beginning of the year – take home some end of season silverware.

The Breeze Holiday Parks Camaro has been a mark of consistency this year with just one finish outside the top 10, which came at the most recent round in Queensland Raceway. Holdsworth also claimed a podium at Sydney Motorsport Park in the opening race of the round.

“Our plan for this year has come together and we’re in a great position, it’s just a case of closing it out now,” said Holdsworth.

“We’d need to get a bit fortunate to climb over Nathan (Herne) and Owen (Kelly) for the top two spots but we’ve got Kyle (Gurton) breathing down our necks so we certainly can’t be resting on our laurels.

“It’s going to be a crazy weekend I feel, it looks like some wet racing on the cards and these cars are an absolute handful in slippery conditions. I’ll take a look through the archives and dig up some wet footage to study, I doubt it’ll be to hard to find wet Sandown footage!

“We had a damp qualifying last round and we didn’t nail it, but that’s actually going to help us this weekend. We know exactly what’s needed once the conditions turn.

“In terms of what we need to be competitive, it’s all about the kerbs. There’s no other permanent circuit in the country where you smash the kerbs as hard as we do in Sandown so you need to have a setup that handles them well.

“My vision for this round is to close it out with some podiums across the weekend,” concluded Holdsworth.

The final round of the 2022 Trans Am Championship kicks off on Friday the 16th of September and runs across the weekend at Sandown Raceway. There is still a non-points invitational round to conclude the year at Bathurst in November.
