TekworkX Motorsport duo Luke Youlden and Max Vidau have again endured a challenging weekend despite showing themselves to be two of the quickest cars in the field.
The pair both struggled with traffic in qualifying, leading to Vidau lining up seventh and Youlden eighth. A storming start from Vidau saw him momentarily in to fourth exiting turn one but a racing incident ripped the wheel from his hands and left Vidau with steering damage. Youlden capitalised from the incident to move himself up to sixth where he would ultimately finish. Impressively, Vidau set the second fastest lap of the race even with his steering damage on route to 16th.
Race two was a tricky affair, with rain beginning to fall across the 20 lap race. Youlden was unlucky on the opening lap with a spin while attempting a pass for fifth, leading to him setting the fastest lap of the race while charging back to 15th in similar fashion to Vidau’s race one effort. The second race played out similarly as well for Vidau, gaining 11 places to finish in fifth.
An unfortunate post-race penalty for contact when the preceding car checked up in a fast corner dropped Vidau to 14th on the grid for race three. The weekend was rounded out by a race that saw just two green flag laps, nevertheless Youlden was able to climb to seventh and Vidau to ninth.
“We didn’t start on Saturday as well as we expected. We got held up a lot in qualifying, so we were out of position a bit, we probably had the pace for second or third. We were stuck in traffic in the first race, the car in front was good in a couple key corners and weak in a lot of others so that held us up,” said Youlden.
“Sunday was a bit tough, I was happy with my start in race two but then there was some mayhem and unfortunately, I ended up turned around as well and that put us to the back of the Pro field.
“The car was fast, which we proved with our speed in race two. I had some good battles in what little time there was in race three and tried to capitalise on that speed but just ran out of laps. Some positives to take out of the weekend but no luck again so we’ll look ahead to Sandown,” concluded Youlden.
“I didn’t get the right lap in on my first set of tyres in qualifying so I had to get the job done on the second set and put in a lap on my last attempt, if I had got my fourth lap in on that set we would have been even higher up the grid,” said Vidau.
“I had a great start and drove up to fourth by turn one but then we had a racing incident and it ripped the wheel out of my hand and sent us straight on. It was another rough day on Sunday unfortunately, the car has mega pace, I think we passed 30 cars across the weekend, but it just didn’t go our way.
“Moving forward I’m comfortable with the car, we made some good changes to better suit me and headed to Sandown I’ve got a fair bit of confidence for that round so we’ll look forward to that one.”
The next round of Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship action will be at Sandown Raceway from August 19-21 before a six week break leading into the final two rounds.
