Emery Clean Sweep Leads Double ASM Podium

Geoff Emery has stamped his authority on the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Morris Pro-Am class with a comprehensive clean sweep in Townsville, as his Ashley Seward Motorsport teammate Dean Cook joined him on the podium

In what has proven to be one of the most competitive seasons in Carrera Cup history Emery became the first driver in either class to sweep a round, claiming pole position and leading every lap (in his class) of his three victories.

“The boys gave me a really good car this weekend, Ash Seward and his team worked really hard to get us up the pointy end,” said Emery.

“Being up the front made all the difference, we were ahead of the biff and barge behind and could dictate our own race for once this year.

“The track evolved all weekend, being a street circuit and having different types of rubber on the racetrack depending on who ran before us certainly meant it was a different feel every time we went out. The team did a great job of getting our tyre pressures right and making the right changes.

“Tailem Bend up next in just two weeks, we’ll carry plenty of confidence from this weekend and the fact that I won there last year.”

A controversial opening race saw Cook finish 12th outright after dodging the turn two chaos. In race two, Cook was up to second in class before falling back on a restart to finish in fifth. Race three was more straightforward, with Cook holding his position before he benefitted from a mistake in front to gain a spot.

“We didn’t start the weekend quite where we wanted, probably chasing setup a bit all the way through the round. I knew we just needed to be consistent and finish every race though and we’d end up in a good place,” said Cook.

“The team made some good changes and I felt a lot more confident as the weekend went on, it feels like we are building some momentum now in the Championship with back to back podiums so fingers crossed we keep it going next time out.”

The pair are also joined in the ASM stable by Scott Taylor who claimed his best result of the season with fifth in race one before finishes of ninth and seventh in the last two races – culminating in his best round with the new generation cup car.

“Another fantastic weekend of racing, the coaching I’m getting is really paying off,” said Taylor.

“We didn’t damage the car, stayed out of trouble, finished every race and I had fun. That’s all I can ask for, so already looking forward to the next one.”

The fifth round of the of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship marks three rounds in six weeks when the series travels to The Bend Motorsport Park from July 29-31.
