Ashley Seward Motorsport’s Pro-Am title contenders in Carrera Cup, Dean Cook and Geoff Emery, will carry the same objective into Townsville coming off a rollercoaster round in Darwin. Scott Taylor has also detailed on his website how he is looking to attack the Reid Park Street Circuit.
Coming off his best round of the season so far with a runner up finish in Darwin, Cook returns to Townsville where last year he claimed third place on the podium. Emery also has strong history at the circuit with two race wins 12 months ago, however he is coming off his worst round of the year.
In Darwin, Emery was mired down the order after being turned around in race one and was unable to recover following more unmissable contact. After his equally heartbreaking and controversial loss in the 2021 Championship, Emery has made no secret of his ambitions to claim this year’s title. Cook is continuing his rise up the pecking order, following three sixth place finishes in 2017, 2018 and 2019 before claiming third in the 2021 Championship.
The pair have displayed strong pace all season so far with a pair of runner up finishes for Cook and three race wins for Emery. A single DNF, both coming in race two at Winton has dropped the pair to fifth (Emery) and sixth (Cook) in the current Pro-Am standings.
Round four of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship marks the halfway point of the Championship, as the team tackles the Reid Park Street Circuit from July 8-10.
Quotes
Dean Cook
“I really like Townsville, it’s a great street circuit. It’s very challenging but at the same time an exciting and rewarding track.
“I’ve been pretty competitive there in the past and I aim to improve again this year by finishing every race up at the pointy end of the Pro-Am field. Coming off Darwin I’m pumped and feel really confident that I can carry the momentum and continue on the podium again.
“With the 10 minute qualifying returning we will need to be on the pace straight away, we’ll only get a couple of laps to put down representative times. The track should at least be a bit warmer than when we had this format in Winton, which should help.”
Geoff Emery
“The Townsville circuit really suits my driving style, it’s a fast and flowing street track and it’s really tricky to get right.
“It’s definitely not been the season I was hoping for so far, I’ve been really quick but have had no luck. If I can get qualifying right and put myself at the front of the field, I should be able to strike back in the championship.
“We go back to having an endurance race this weekend which is nice, I enjoy the longer races. You can put your head down and just punch out lap after lap. We’ve seen over the years that despite being a street track, there’s plenty of passing opportunities so we should see some more action in terms of overtakes this round.”
