Luke Youlden, driver of the TekworkX Motorsport #53 and sponsored by Hire A Hubby, has unveiled a special indigenous livery for rounds three and four of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship in Darwin and Townsville.
The round coincides with the Repco Supercars Championship inaugural Indigenous round, with the full Supercars field running special liveries.
After two rounds of the Championship Youlden is 11th in the points with a best finish of fourth which came in race two at Winton.
The season has shown plenty of promise, but a string of bad luck has kept Youlden out of the podium places. After charging through the field in round one Youlden was turned around in race two and then hit again in race four, after achieving the fastest lap, leaving the Hire A Hubby car with just one top 10 for the weekend.
In Winton Youlden recorded a sixth and a fifth in the first two races of the weekend, before being bowled off the road by another car at turn one in race three – relegating Youlden to 12th.
“I’m really proud to unveil this special livery for our Northern swing in the Carrera Cup Championship,” said Youlden.
“Obviously Supercars are doing their first officially recognised indigenous round in Darwin and we really love the idea of a round to celebrate the history of Australia, so we jumped on board. With only a couple of weeks between rounds the plan is to retain the livery for Townsville.
“In terms of on the track, we’re just looking to put it all together really and limit the mistakes. If I can be fast and get out front, we won’t have to worry about the issues that come from being in the pack.
”We were on for a good weekend in Winton, consistently in the top five but the incident cost us a lot of points. With the pace we showed over the first two rounds we really should be higher though, fighting for the podium places and the win.
“I imagine it will be pretty close again like we saw last round, with being on the wrong side of a tenth costing you half a dozen places, unlike the Grand Prix where there were some big gaps. Fortunately there’s at least one obvious place to pass, down in to turn one with the big braking zone.
“We need to qualify well, stay out of trouble and have a clean weekend. There’s still a long way to go in the Championship but we can’t afford to drop many more points to the front,” concluded Youlden.
Round three of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship takes places on the support card in Darwin alongside the Repco Supercars Championship from June 17-19.
