Vidau Returning to Happy Hunting Ground in Winton

Championship leader Max Vidau is raring to hit the track in Winton, a venue at which has never missed the top five in a national series race.

Max enjoyed a career best weekend in the season opener at the Australian Grand Prix, but there’s still more to come after finishing on the podium in all four races. Across the weekend Max picked up two third place finishes and another two second place finishes. It was clear that Max had the fastest car after claiming the fastest lap in all but one race, denied only his teammate Luke Youlden, but missed out on a race win due to some ill-timed Safety Car’s.

As Max heads to Winton with TekworkX Motorsport, he’ll be comforted in the fact this is a track he traditionally performs well at, aided likely by the countless testing miles Max has logged at the venue from his time with Victorian based teams. In 2017 with the Australian Formula Ford Championship, Max finished the two Winton races in second and first. In 2018 Max was competing in the Porsche GT3 Challenge and logged two fourth place finishes to go with a third place in that year’s trip to Winton.

“We had a good test day at Winton, the car was quick as we expected. There is a bit of work we needed to between then and now to make it more comfortable, but the team have been working hard. We should roll out of the gate pretty fast.

“Compared to the previous generation, the tyres are a lot harder to get up to temperature now. Especially the fronts, so qualifying will be tricky. We’ll just have to go hard from the outset and see what we can do.

“I’ve done a million laps around Winton between testing and racing. It’s a real country town sort of track which I really enjoy. If we can carry over our speed from the GP, we will be in a really advantageous position.”
