Davison Excited for Street Circuit Finale in Carrera Cup

Alex Davison takes on the Adelaide Street Circuit this weekend in the Scott Taylor Motorsport backed, Ashley Seward Motorsport prepared, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) as part of the final round in Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia.

The 48 time race winner in Carrera Cup has enjoyed a fast car around the street circuits so far in 2023, highlighted by race three victory and the 17th round win of his career coming on the streets of Townsville.

Davison was fast again last round, at the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit, but spent the weekend fighting back after a local yellow at the end of qualifying ruined his chances of a top five spot on the grid. A heavily interrupted first race only allowed Davison to climb up three spots to seventh, with just three green flag laps. The #222 was on course for a top five in the second race when it was caught up in an accident, which left Davison to again charge from 10th to seventh in the final race of the weekend.

Despite missing a round Davison sits ninth in the standings, with just the Adelaide 500 weekend remaining in the 2023 season.

“We have a good car on the street circuits and even though the Gold Coast wasn’t successful, we were fast all weekend,” said Davison.

“Through no fault of our own we had a poor qualifying and that put us back in the pack. At the moment in Carrera Cup, it’s very tough to go racing once you’re down the order. We also had a great car in Townsville, so we should have a chance to be competitive once again this weekend.

“The focus is on executing and maximising our weekend. That starts with two good practice sessions and leading into a strong qualifying session which sets the tone for the weekend. The tight and twisty circuits, where a quick change of direction is important, has been one our strong suits this season, so we should have a great base to build off.

“I’m excited, and would love to finish the year off strong,” concluded Davison.

Round eight of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship takes place from November 23-26 as part of the VAILO Adelaide 500.
