After missing the most recent round of the season, Alex Davison and Ashley Seward Motorsport return to Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup at Bathurst this weekend.
The pairing were forced to miss the Sandown round due to damage, after Davison was the innocent party in a race three crash at The Bend just three weeks prior. For the sixth round of the season, Davison will be on double duty as he competes alongside his brother Will Davison in the Repco Bathurst 1000.
The task is not a new experience for Davison, who has previously competed in both Carrera Cup and Supercars on the same Bathurst weekend on five occasions. After a late call up to contest the season, Davison has quickly got to grips with the Porsche 911 (992) GT3 Cup car. Townsville proved a breakthrough for the #222 owned by Scott Taylor Motorsport, with Davison securing the round win along with his 48th career Carrera Cup race win.
Carrera Cup will have just one practice session this weekend, a 50 minute hit-out on Thursday morning, before qualifying later that afternoon.
“It was disappointing not to be competing in Carrera Cup at Sandown, but we were always set to do the last three rounds,” said Davison.
“With the double duty I treat the two categories completely separately. On one side the extra seat time can help keep you sharp for the Supercar, but when I race Carrera Cup I’m doing it because I want to win and get the best results I can. It’s a great field this weekend, with some top competitors from all over the world, it’s going to be super competitive.
“The single practice session is going to put a much bigger emphasis on rolling out of the truck with a car that is already fast. Ideally you want to spend that session getting up to speed as a driver and making a couple small tweaks to the car. If you’re battling with setup right out of the gate, it’s going to be very difficult to get on top of it before qualifying.
“Swapping between the cars can be tricky, but the biggest aspect in the past has been the off track stuff. There’s a very busy schedule outside of the car in Supercars, so you need to ensure you’re giving yourself enough time to prepare properly. That said, it’s certainly doable and I’m ready to get the weekend started,” concluded Davison.
