Brett Holdsworth has declared himself back to peak fitness thanks to the two-month gap between rounds of the Trans Am season, as he looks to reignite his championship fight.
The Breeze Holiday Parks driver is currently ninth in the standings, three rounds into the season. By his own admission it’s been a rollercoaster year so far for Holdsworth, who finished third in the 2022 championship.
At the season opening event around Symmons Plains, Holdsworth fought forward to finish the weekend in the top five after a tricky qualifying. An equal career best qualifying performance at round two was rewarded with a race one podium, but a broken Universal Joint delivered a costly race three DNF. Most recently, a fighting performance at the wheel of the #99 Camaro at Winton saw Holdsworth fighting through the field after getting hit twice in three races.
Prior to the round at Winton Raceway Holdsworth had a freak training accident while bike riding, of which Holdsworth is an avid enthusiast. The effects left him feeling sub-optimal for that round, but a two-month gap since then has allowed the Ashley Seward Motorsport driver to regain his peak fitness ahead of his highly anticipated home event.
The round at Queensland Raceway marks a major weekend on the calendar for the Breeze Holiday Parks backed car, which carries a fleet of sponsors all based out of Southeast Queensland, while Holdsworth and his family live just a 90-minute drive from the circuit. The round will also see the debut of a busy four race format for Trans Am.
“I went snowboarding last weekend and managed not to hurt myself again, so everything is back to 100 percent and I’m damn keen to get back in the race car,” said Holdsworth.
“It’s been a little frustrating at times this year, like at Winton we rolled out really fast in practice but then just struggled after that. The Uni Bolt was hurting us all weekend at Phillip Island before it let go as well, we just haven’t had a solid run yet. The car is really fast, especially over one lap, I don’t think a front row start is far away at all. The shorter races will probably help in that regard, we can just hammer out the short run speed all weekend.
“Ash and the crew have gone over the car with a fine-tooth comb before this one though, and we’ve got a great Camaro ready to get back up the front. I was actually surprised looking at the points, we’re far from out of it and the way this season has gone at the front, there’s going to be plenty to play out for sure.
“The home event is going to be mega, Mum and Dad are coming out and I’ll have a fair few of the crew from TPS Group, PriPark and Breeze Holiday Parks coming to check the race car out as well. I’m just pumped to get the weekend going,” concluded Holdsworth.
Round four of the 2023 Trans Am season takes to the track from August 11-13 as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries, with coverage live on Stan Sport.
