Alex Davison Praises Depth of Talent in Carrera Cup Field

Alex Davison has praised the depth of talent currently on display in Porche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup, as he prepares for round four of the season in the Ashley Seward Motorsport prepared #222.

The Scott Taylor Motorsport owned entry recently took to the top step of the podium when Davison won his 48th race in the category, and his first of 2023 in the final race at Townsville. Combined results also gave Davison the round victory, and a welcome boost up to fifth in the Pro class standings.

The Bend Motorsport Park hosts this weekend’s action and after only being opened in 2018 it provides a rarity for Davison, a circuit he hasn’t previously raced at in Carrera Cup competition.

However, there is track knowledge in the bank for Davison who raced at the South Australian circuit as part his 2020 Repco Supercars Championship campaign. The ASM squad also recently completed a test day at the circuit with Davison.

“This is the most depth there’s ever been in the Carrera Cup field, it’s always been competitive at the top with extremely talented drivers but this year that depth is higher than ever before,” said Davison.

“There are just two or three tenths covering the top 10 and you absolutely need to be on your A game because qualifying sets the tone for the weekend. Because it’s so competitive it’s really hard to come through the field, we’re all so evenly matched. We are really putting our attention on qualifying, a lot of effort into that. If you can get on to the front two rows, like we did in Townsville, it sets you up for a good weekend.

“I really haven’t raced at The Bend a lot at all, just Supercars in 2020. It’s a very technical circuit, and the car setup and tyre pressures are vitally important. You can’t drive around a bad car there, if you’re a little bit off and you lose out at every corner, it’s a lot of time by the end of the lap. I think we’ll probably see a bigger split time wise because of the longer lap, but that makes it no easier.

“We’re working very hard continuing on from the test day and making sure we’re putting a good car out on to the track. That’s our real focus, putting in to play what we learnt on the test day, and I need to focus on maximising the car,” concluded Davison.

Alex Davison will hit the track with the rest of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup field from August 18-20 for the OTR SuperSprint at The Bend Motorsport Park.
