Davison Returns to the Driving Seat in Carrera Cup

Alex Davison will return to the driving seat in Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup for the first time since 2018, marking 11 seasons in which Davison has made at least one start in the one-make championship.

Porsche pedigree doesn’t come much better than 2004 Champion Davison, who has won 47 races, 16 rounds and earned 15 pole positions in his Carrera Cup Australia career. The former Supercars full-timer is also a race winner in Carrera Cup  Germany and in Porsche Supercup.

Davison drove for Ashley Seward Motorsport full-time in 2017 and part-time in 2018, where the partnership netted third place in the 2017 championship after accruing 15 podium finishes across the season. One of Davison’s victories in that season came at the Albert Park Street Circuit, where this week’s action will take place.

The return comes aboard the Scott Taylor Motorsport #222, as a fill-in for the injured Scott Taylor who picked up an injury while competing in a Triathlon.

A unique schedule is set to pose a myriad of challenges at the Formula One Rolex Australian Grand Prix, with Thursday comprising of a sole practice before qualifying and race one. On Friday and Saturday Carrera Cup will feature one race per day, coming late in proceedings under a setting sun. Tight turnarounds on the opening day will make way to rapidly evolving track conditions and set up an enthralling weekend to kick off the 2023 season.

“I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to jump behind the wheel of the STM Porsche 992 GT3 Cup Car at Albert Park,” said Davison.

“Thanks to Scott and Rebecca for the opportunity to fill in while he is recovering.

“I’ve been fortunate to have had a lot of success at Albert Park in Carrera Cup in the past so it will be great to go there in the new car and compete in such a competitive field.

“There’s no expectations other than representing the STM and ASM squad as well as possible and enjoying the weekend.”
