ASM Duo Maintain Pro-Am Command after Bathurst Deluge

Geoff Emery and Dean Cook have held on to their position at the top of the Pro-Am standings after just a single race was completed in round seven of Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup.

In qualifying, held on a mostly dry track with light rain falling across the mountain, it was Emery that blitzed the field to earn Pro-Am pole by over a second. Cook earned himself fifth on the grid while Scott Taylor qualified in 11th.

The first race of the weekend was held in torrential conditions, with a huge amount of water on the track. Visibility was also a significant problem for the Pro-Am trio who, per the rules, started behind all of the Pro cars, despite Emery qualifying 14th outright. Emery lost the lead of Pro-Am around halfway and momentarily slipped to third before hitting back to reclaim second place. The gap to the lead was closing before the race ended three laps early. It was a relatively uneventful race for Cook who finished where he started in fifth. Taylor had a spin at The Chase, before retiring two laps shy of the eventual conclusion to the race.

Race two was a complete non-event with the race abandoned before anyone even hit the racetrack, thanks to significant rainfall. While it was sunny skies that greeted the trio for race three, the Saturday deluge still had an impact on the race as large sections of standing water and extremely muddy grass lined the circuit. The race was started behind the Safety Car, before a two-lap run under green flag conditions before the Safety Car was reintroduced and then replaced by a red flag which ended the race before halfway. The lack of laps completed meant the race did not count for points.

As a result, Emery now leads Cook by 23 points with a further 10-point buffer back to the third placed car. The season will conclude on the Gold Coast, with the series returning to the Surfers Paradise streets for the first time since 2019.
