On a triple duty weekend for the team at Sandown Raceway, Ashley Seward Motorsport has named debutant Matt Slavin in their Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge line-up alongside Ross McGregor and Jacob Li.
ASM also has Brett Holdsworth in title contention for the final round of the 2022 Turtle Wax Trans Am Series and Michael Caruso at the wheel of the AutoGlym Alfa Romeo in Supercheap Auto TCR Australia.
Slavin will make his first ever race start on the weekend, after graduating through a program of Karting, road car track days and tests in the 911 Cup Car. Slavin will race in the highly competitive Pro-Am class aboard the Ares Group #12.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how I go this weekend, I’m a lifelong motorsport fan but this will be my first time going racing in a car,” said Slavin.
“You could call me a newly minted Porsche enthusiast, I didn’t really get into them as I was growing up but I completely understand now. It all started when I bought a Cayenne for the family.
“I’ve driven at Sandown before fortunately, so I have a good understanding of the track. I’d like to go out and set some personal best lap times and bring the car home nice and straight. Of course, once the visor goes down, we’ll see what happens,” concluded Slavin.
Alongside Slavin in round three of Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, will be fellow Pro-Am competitor McGregor and Class B entrant Li.
In TCR Australia, Caruso is looking to deliver the long awaited and deserved results in his partnership with AutoGlym following some cruel twists of fate from leading positions in 2022.
Most recently at Queensland Raceway was the retirement with two laps to go due to an engine failure after leading the entirety of race two. The pace displayed in that showing does give Caruso added confidence that the winning result will come before the season is over.
“Race two at QR was a long time coming, in terms of the speed we displayed over that race. We did everything we could to deliver on that speed and bring home a result,” said Caruso.
“Our one lap speed hasn’t been the best, but we’ve shown time again that through the races we can make really good speed and move forward. A lot of that is down to how nice the Alfa Romeo is on its tyres, it allows us to gain more and more ground as the race goes on.
“I’m not to sure what to expect at Sandown, the category hasn’t been there since 2019 but there’s no reason why we can’t be in the fight again. The usual players will be up the front battling pretty hard with the championship coming to it’s final two rounds, but we’ll just keep punching at it and try to be a thorn in their side.
“With just Sandown and Bathurst to go, I’m determined to get the results we deserve from this season,” concluded Caruso.
In Trans Am, Holdsworth enters the season finale in third place and just 85 points off the lead. The season goal for the #99 Breeze Holiday Parks Camaro has always been a Championship podium however Holdsworth has signalled his desire to claim a round podium on route to the overall silverware.
