Two thirds of the Ashley Seward Motorsport duo in Carrera Cup will come off the back of a Bathurst 12 Hour class victory, albeit in an older generation car, as they enter round 2 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship.
Geoff Emery and Scott Taylor were both part of the team which won Class C in the 12 Hour, doing so in a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Gen 2) which is the same exact car in which Taylor contested last year’s Carrera Cup Championship.
Of course, the 2022 edition of Carrera Cup features the new type 992 model however both Emery and Taylor expressed the benefit of seat time and being behind the wheel.
As for Dean Cook, he started the season strongly with two top five finishes in the Pro-Am class and is looking to use that start as a springboard for podiums in Winton.
Emery recorded round victory in Pro-Am at the Grand Prix courtesy of two race wins and holds an 18 point lead in the Championship.
Taylor enjoyed the challenge of a new car, steadily improving from the back of the field to record a top 20 in the final race of the weekend.
“As much as a you can drive a race car is a good thing, the cars are very different to drive but it still helps,” said Emery.
“I’ve done a lot of miles around Winton, I’d hope we’ll be reasonably strong given it’s our local test track. I’m looking forward to a positive weekend and hopefully building on our Championship lead.”
“It’s almost like a GT car, just without the power and such, it drives much more like that than the older style of car,” said Taylor.
“I was a bit nervous about the new car at the GP as a few people are, but we have to come up to the level of the car because it’s a very good race car and we need to be able to drive to that level.
“Being at Bathurst and competing with the world’s best drivers is a pretty good way to build some confidence.”
