Caruso Targeting No Less Than a Repeat of 2021 SMP Performance

Driving in 2022 for Ashley Seward Motorsport in the #10 Autoglym Alfa Romeo, Michael Caruso has signalled his intentions to at least match his 2021 Sydney Motorsport Park performance which netted him his sole TCR Australia race win so far.

This time last year Caruso enjoyed his best round of his TCR career, finishing sixth, third and first in the weekend’s trio of races. Importantly the ergonomics for this year’s assault at the Sydney round remain the same with Caruso campaigning the Alfa in both seasons.

So far in 2022 Caruso and ASM have shown bursts of speed, but a combination of bad luck and mechanical faults have held the pairing to ninth in the standings. At Symmons Plains an issue in qualifying forced Caruso to start from the back in the opening two races, a format that has been rectified for the remainder of the year. At Phillip Island the #10 was taken out on lap two in race one after qualifying on the front row. The most recent round at Bathurst saw Caruso’s best result of the year with fourth in race two.

The upcoming weekend is a home race for Caruso, a round that offers the opportunity for friends and family to rally around and support the former Supercars full-timer.

“It’s been a rollercoaster year so far, we’ve not got the results I feel that we deserve,” said Caruso.

“Last year the Sydney round was my best outing of the year, it all came together really nicely. A different team this year but heading to Sydney we’ve performed better than we did in 2021 and the ASM crew are on the ball with everything.

“We should be able to replicate our performances from last year across the weekend. Hopefully we can do even better.

“I really enjoy Sydney Motorsport Park, it’s a great track with a good mix of corners and it’s a home round for me as well. All the family and friends get around to the track and we just have a really good time,” Caruso concluded.
